Department of Health Administration

The Department of Health Administration at Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology was accredited by the Ministry of Education in 1995, and 336 students are currently enrolled there.

Like all businesses, the business of the healthcare industry needs good management and leadership to run smoothly. As a Health Care Administrator, you are supposed to oversee and improve the operation of a single department or an entire healthcare facility.

To facilitate clinical professional services and make effective decisions, health care administrators must understand basic business principles such as: finance, information systems, strategic planning, human resources, and marketing. Strong leadership abilities (i.e. diplomacy, mentoring, flexibility, and communication) will be essential to their success. Entering the profession, they may be responsible for establishing and implementing the policies and objectives of a specific clinical area or department within a facility. They may be required to train and evaluate personnel, develop reports and budgets, and coordinate activities with other managers. With experience and an advanced degree, health care administrators may move into executive management positions in which they could be responsible for millions of dollars of facilities and equipment, as well as hundreds of employees.

The Department of Health Administration integrates healthcare management/leadership theories and practice, and provides graduates to assume entry to mid-level management positions in a variety of healthcare institutions such as state health departments, health insurance companies, hospitals, clinics, health maintenance organizations, health planning and consulting agencies, and so many more. Thus, the Bachelor of Science in Health Administration will prepare graduates for management and leadership roles within the healthcare industry.
